Conversion of Hard Copy Books into Digital Formats for an Established Publisher

An established publisher in the UK was in need of a partner to handle digital conversion of three hard copy books into digital formats including, .ePub and .MOBI. They contacted Outsource2india to assist with the project.

The Client

The client is a reputed publisher based out of London, UK with more than 25 years of experience in the industry. Focusing primarily on books about Libya, the Middle East, and the Arab World in general, the publisher needed three hard copy books converted into .MOBI and .ePub and format. They required -

• A partner who was PDPF (International Digital Publishing Forum) certified
• Someone who could complete the project quickly and within a careful budget as outlined at the start of the project
• Could ensure accuracy throughout the project and reduce any unnecessary edits

Project Challenges

There were several problems with the project that the O2I team had to tackle from the start. These problems included -

• The original documentation was in raw, physical format. This required careful analysis and conversion of the data into a digital format
• Each book had to be converted into a workable Word document, and required careful proofreading and comparison with the originals
• The word documents were then to be accurately converted into the digital formats, consisting of more than 1200 pages of content

The Solution

To ensure the project was completed with a high degree of accuracy and as per the quality benchmark set by the client, the Outsource2india team completed the following -

• Two resources were assigned to work on the project exclusively through completion
• Each book was scanned using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to turn the raw pages into Word documents
• The resulting digital documents were proofread in detail to ensure they were accurate and any necessary changes were made
• The quality assurance team made several passes at the documents to ensure optimal accuracy and no errors present in the text
• Once the books were thoroughly proofread and edited, the O2I team converted them into .ePpub and .MOBI formats as requested
• Typesetting services were provided so that the documents could be re-published in the future if needed

The Results

As a result of the service provided by Outsource2india to the client, the project was completed successfully in 20 days in a highly cost-effective manner. The project was completed at an accuracy rate of 95%, matching the client's benchmark and ensuring the final files matched the client's needs.
